As the debate over dispersant use continues to intensify, it’s tempting to wonder if we traded part of this gigantic oil spill for a toxic dispersant spill. But that misses a big point: We don’t really know how much oil is still out there, and we don’t know if the dispersants used in such massive quantities really broke the oil down or just kept it deep underwater.
