It could not have been more inadvertent, but a British Petroleum spokesperson made a very valid point when speaking about new oil being washed onto a Florida shore. Speaking from Walton County, Fla., was Cortnee Ferguson, spokeswoman for Deepwater Horizon Joint Information Center, who said this: “This is a good thing. The more oil that washes ashore the more we can clean up and dispose of it properly.”
That’s a good point, Ms. Ferguson…but that’s also oil BP would have had to clean up anyway. So instead the company dumped nearly 2 million gallons of dispersant into the ocean to keep the oil underwater and offshore. But thanks for the “candor.”
