The state Department of Health and Hospitals will reopen five oyster harvesting areas on Saturday.
Oyster areas 2, 3, 14, 15 and 17 will be reopened, the state Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness said in a news release Friday.
Harvest areas 2 and 3, which were originally closed July 5th, are east of the Mississippi River in St. Bernard Parish. Harvest areas 14, 15 and 17, which are in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes, have been partially closed since May 23.
The harvesting areas were closed as a precaution due to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
