Gulf seafood reps to visit D.C.

Representatives of Louisiana seafood will be in Washington, D.C. next week to meet with the state’s delegation to discuss the industry’s recovery from the BP oil spill.

In years past, the annual visit focused on Louisiana oysters, but given the impact of last year’s oil spill, Louisiana’s seafood experts say they will take along representatives of other states and harvesters of all types of Gulf seafood.

During the Feb. 9-10 visit, seafood industry representatives will meet with legislators and government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration. Among other things, they want to ensure the continued government testing of Gulf seafood for safety.
