BP claims administrator Kenneth Feinberg will hold two town hall meetings next week in lower Jefferson Parish where he will undoubtedly get an earful from frustrated oil-spill victims.
Feinberg, who oversees BP’s $20 billion claims fund, accepted Parish President John Young’s invitation to hold hourlong meetings Monday in Grand Isle and Tuesday in Lafitte.
Young said he wants Feinberg to address mounting complaints from spill victims who say their claims have been delayed or denied without cause.
He has also asked Feinberg to explain changes in the claims process as it shifts from making emergency payments to final settlement payments. To accept final payments, claimants must give up their rights to sue for spill-related losses.
As of Tuesday, the Gulf Coast Claims Facility had paid out $2.9 billion to settle 168,000 claims.
The meetings will be held Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Grand Isle Community Center, 3811 Louisiana 1, and Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the City Park Multi-Purpose Complex, 4917 City Park Drive, Lafitte.
