Beaches: Off Limits!

B

Day 67 of the spill brings more bad news for vacationers and the already reeling tourism industry across the Gulf Coast. State and local officials are shutting down beaches, one after another, as the oil comes ashore.

Here are a few notable reportings:

Grand Isle: Off limits; all beaches closed until further notice.

Pensacola Beach: Officially closed. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist toured the beach on Wednesday, calling the sight of the oil “disgusting.”

Dauphin Island/Gulf Shores: Swimming/health advisory issued.

Dune Allen Beach: Swimming/health advisory issued.

Tar balls have been sighted washing into Mississippi Sound.

Plate-sized tar patties have been washing up on Okaloosa County shores, some of the most pristine beaches in Florida.
